Reddit NSFW Rules: How to Behave in 18+ Communities as a Promoter

Reddit's NSFW rules as a promoter meets them: sitewide rules, the NSFW tag, community rules, verification, posting limits and the etiquette that keeps posts up and accounts alive.

Reddit allows adult content, but only inside rules: Reddit's own sitewide rules, and on top of them the rules of every single community. Promoters who lose accounts on Reddit almost always broke the second layer, not the first.

This guide is about those rules and the etiquette around them. It names no communities and covers no explicit detail; it's about how to behave so posts stay up and accounts survive.

Two layers of rules

LayerWho sets itTypical examples
SitewideRedditConsent and age rules, NSFW tagging, no spam, no ban evasion, no vote manipulation
CommunityEach community's moderatorsVerification, posting limits, title format, allowed links, no selling in comments

Reddit's content policy and its rules on adult content apply everywhere. Read them in full on Reddit's own pages; they are updated from time to time. Community rules sit on top and can be much stricter.

What the sitewide rules mean for you

  • Tag adult posts NSFW. Untagged adult content is removed, and repeated misses can cost the account.
  • Only content the creator owns and consents to share. Never anyone else's material, never leaked content; see why promoters never use leaked content.
  • No vote manipulation. Buying upvotes or using rings of accounts to vote is against Reddit's rules and gets accounts suspended.
  • No ban evasion. A new account to get around a community ban or a suspension breaks the rules.
  • No spam. The same post across many communities in a short time is treated as spam.

Reading a community's rules

Before the first post in any 18+ community, read three things: the rules list, the pinned posts and the sidebar or wiki. Look for:

  1. 1Whether verification is required, and how it works. See OnlyFans Reddit verification.
  2. 2How often you may post (per day or per week).
  3. 3Whether links to paid pages are allowed in posts, comments, or not at all.
  4. 4Title rules: tags, formats, words that aren't allowed.
  5. 5Minimum account age or karma; see how to get Reddit karma.

The etiquette that isn't written down

  • Post content that fits the community's theme, not whatever you have.
  • Write titles for the reader, not for a link. Clickbait titles get reported.
  • Reply to comments like a person. Don't push a link in every reply.
  • Accept a removal without arguing in public; ask moderators politely by message if it's unclear.
  • Space posts out. Several posts in a few minutes looks automated even when it isn't.
  • Be honest in conversations. Never claim to be someone you're not, and never pass off another person's photos as the creator's.

Removals are normal and usually come from a rule you missed. Why Reddit posts get removed walks through the common causes.

When something goes wrong

A removed post: read the reason, fix it, move on. A community ban: respect it, don't make a new account to come back. A sitewide warning or suspension: stop posting with that account and read the notice. If posts seem invisible, see Reddit shadowban check and fix.

Promoters working with AMZA get the same advice from their Wingman: the rules come first, the posting plan second.

FAQ

Is NSFW content allowed on Reddit?+

Yes, under Reddit's rules: it must be tagged NSFW, consensual, and posted only where the community allows it. Read Reddit's current content policy for the details.

Why do 18+ communities ask for verification?+

To make sure the person posting is the person in the content and that it's shared with consent. Each community runs its own process, explained in its rules.

How many communities can I post in per day?+

Reddit doesn't publish one number. Each community sets its own limits, and posting the same thing to many places quickly looks like spam. Spread posts out and follow each community's limit.

Can I promote in the comments of 18+ communities?+

Only if that community allows it. Many forbid selling in comments. Check the rules before mentioning any page.
