Affiliate Terms and Conditions in iGaming: The Clauses to Read Before You Sign
Affiliate terms and conditions in iGaming: the clauses that decide what you earn, from qualifying players and admin fees to prohibited traffic, payment and termination, plus red flags.
Most affiliates skim the terms, click accept and start sending traffic. Then a month later a commission is lower than expected, or an account is closed for a rule they never saw. Nearly every surprise in iGaming affiliate work is written somewhere in the terms.
This guide walks through the clauses that matter most and what a red flag looks like in each. It is general information, not legal advice: for a contract you rely on, ask a professional.
Clauses that decide what you earn
| Clause | What to look for | Red flag |
|---|---|---|
| Commission definition | Exactly what CPA or revshare is calculated on | Vague wording like 'revenue as determined by us' |
| Qualified player | Minimum deposit, wagering, time window | Conditions that can change without notice |
| Net revenue | Which costs are deducted: bonuses, fees, taxes | A long list of open-ended deductions |
| Admin fee | A percentage taken off revenue before your share | A high fee with no explanation |
| Negative carryover | Whether a negative month carries forward | Carryover with no reset at all |
| Payment threshold and schedule | Minimum payout and when it is paid | Unclear dates, very high thresholds |
If you are new to these terms, read negative carryover explained and how affiliate payouts work first.
Clauses about your traffic
- Prohibited sources: which channels are banned (often spam, incentivised traffic, some social or paid sources).
- PPC and brand bidding: whether paid search is allowed and which keywords are off limits. See casino PPC rules.
- Permitted countries: where you may promote and where the brand is not licensed.
- Marketing standards: age limits, responsible gambling messages, bonus wording, approval of creatives.
- Self-excluded and underage players: usually not commissionable, and targeting them can end the deal.
- Fraud and duplicate accounts: how they are defined and what happens to commission on them.
Clauses about the relationship
Changes to terms: almost every program can change its terms. Look for how much notice it gives and whether your existing players keep the old deal. Termination: check what happens to commission on your existing players if either side ends the deal. Some programs keep paying for a period, some stop at once.
Lifetime: 'lifetime revshare' should say what ends it. Withholding: when the program may hold back commission, for example during a fraud review, and for how long. Governing law: which country's law applies if there is a dispute.
A simple review routine
- 1Read the whole document once, slowly, before sending any traffic.
- 2Mark every clause about money, traffic and termination.
- 3Write down your questions and send them to the affiliate manager. Keep the answers in writing.
- 4Save a dated copy of the terms you accepted.
- 5Recheck the terms whenever the program announces a change, and at least a few times a year.
Compare programs with the same checklist; how to choose an affiliate program and affiliate network vs direct program help with the bigger decision.
Terms and the law work together
Terms never replace the law. Even if a program allows something, local gambling advertising rules may not. Promote licensed brands only, in legal countries, to adults (18+, or 21+ where required), with responsible gambling messages and no promised outcomes. When in doubt, check local law and the operator's terms.
If you work with AMZA, your terms are agreed with you directly and your Wingman can explain any clause before you start.
