Gambling on Reddit: Subreddit Rules, Ads and What Affiliates Can Do
Gambling and Reddit rules for affiliates: sitewide policy, subreddit rules, Reddit's gambling ads policy, licensed brands, legal countries, 18+ and how to take part honestly.
Reddit has large communities about sports betting, poker and casino games. People there ask real questions and give honest answers, which is exactly why they dislike affiliates who show up only to drop links. On Reddit the rules are layered: Reddit's sitewide policy, its ads policy, and each subreddit's own rules, which are often the strictest.
This guide explains those layers, what an affiliate can realistically do, and how to measure it. Check Reddit's current Content Policy, advertising policy and each subreddit's sidebar before you post anything.
The three layers of rules
| Layer | Who sets it | What it usually covers |
|---|---|---|
| Sitewide | Spam, vote manipulation, age rules, illegal content, self-promotion norms | |
| Ads | Gambling ads restricted to approved advertisers, licensed operators and allowed countries | |
| Subreddit | Moderators | Whether links are allowed at all, affiliate links, tipster posts, account age and karma |
Many betting subreddits ban affiliate links, referral codes and promotion outright. Some allow them in a weekly thread. A few allow nothing but discussion. Read the rules and the pinned posts; when in doubt, message the moderators and ask. Why Reddit posts get removed explains the removal side.
What an affiliate can do on Reddit
The honest path is slow but it works: be a useful member, and let your profile and your own site do the selling.
- Answer questions well: how a bonus's wagering requirement works, what a bet type means, how to set deposit limits.
- Share analysis in match threads where the subreddit allows it, with no link.
- Keep links off the post unless the rules allow them; put your site on your profile instead, if that's allowed.
- Disclose if you mention a brand you have a deal with. Hidden promotion gets accounts banned and communities angry.
Running Reddit ads for gambling
Paid ads are the clean way to put an offer in front of Reddit users. In general, Reddit restricts gambling ads to approved advertisers, often operators rather than affiliates, and to countries where it's legal, with an adult audience. Many affiliates can't run them directly and work through the brand instead.
- 1Check Reddit's current advertising policy for gambling and the countries listed.
- 2Ask the brand whether they run Reddit ads and whether affiliates may.
- 3If allowed, target only legal countries and adult audiences, and include the required notices.

Licences, countries and age
Whatever the channel, the same rules follow you: promote licensed brands only, only to people in countries where online gambling is legal and that brand is licensed, and only to adults (18+, or 21+ where that's the law). Add a responsible-gambling link wherever you mention gambling. See iGaming geos explained for how markets differ, and responsible gambling for affiliates for wording.
Measuring Reddit traffic
Reddit traffic from a profile or a helpful answer is small but often high-intent. Give your profile link its own tag with the tracking link builder and compare its FTDs with other sources.
| Signal | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Comment karma in the subreddit | People find you useful |
| Profile link clicks | Some readers want more |
| FTDs from the Reddit tag | Whether it pays back the time |
| Removed comments | You're close to a rule; slow down and re-read the sidebar |
