What Is a Hybrid Deal in Affiliate Marketing? CPA Plus RevShare, Unpacked

A hybrid deal pays a smaller fixed amount per customer plus a share of their later revenue. How hybrids are built, a worked comparison, the fine print to read and when one beats pure CPA.

A hybrid deal is an affiliate agreement that combines two payment types, usually a fixed amount per new customer (CPA) plus a percentage of what that customer spends afterwards (RevShare). You get some money up front and a long tail on top.

Our CPA vs RevShare guide explains the three models side by side. This one goes inside the hybrid: how the two parts are balanced, how to compare a hybrid offer with a pure one in numbers, and the clauses that decide what it is really worth.

How a hybrid deal is built

A hybrid always trades something. Because the program pays you twice for the same customer, each part is smaller than it would be alone. The typical shape:

  • A reduced CPA paid once the customer qualifies (for example a first payment or a qualifying deposit).
  • A reduced RevShare on that customer's net revenue for a period, or for as long as the account stays active.
  • Qualification rules that apply to the CPA part, such as a minimum spend.
  • Sometimes caps on how many CPAs are paid per month, with the rest moving to RevShare.

A worked comparison

Illustration only, every number here is invented to show the maths, not a real or AMZA rate. You bring 20 qualified customers a month. Each produces on average $40 net revenue a month and stays about 6 months.

DealUp front (per customer)OngoingValue per customer over 6 months
Pure CPA$60None$60
Pure RevShare 30%$0$12 a month$72
Hybrid$3015% = $6 a month$66

In this illustration RevShare wins on total, CPA wins on speed, and the hybrid sits between them with less risk than RevShare. Change one assumption, such as customers staying 3 months instead of 6, and pure CPA wins. Run the maths with your own retention before choosing.

Programs often reserve hybrids for promoters who have already shown consistent traffic, because a hybrid pays up front on traffic whose quality is not yet proven.

The fine print that decides the value

  • How long the RevShare part lasts: lifetime, 12 months, or only while you stay active.
  • What "net revenue" subtracts: fees, bonuses, refunds, chargebacks.
  • Negative carryover: in iGaming, whether a losing month for the operator is carried into the next. See negative carryover explained.
  • CPA qualification: the minimum a customer must do before the fixed part is paid. See FTD explained.
  • Review clauses: whether the program can change terms if traffic quality drops.

Common hybrid mistakes

  • Comparing headline numbers instead of value per customer over a realistic lifetime.
  • Asking for a hybrid too early, before you have numbers that support it.
  • Forgetting the RevShare part is variable, so a quiet month for customers is a quiet month for you.

At AMZA terms are agreed per promoter. Your Wingman can model a hybrid on your own retention and talk to the program once your numbers make the case.

FAQ

What is a hybrid deal in affiliate marketing?+

An agreement that pays a fixed amount for each new qualified customer plus a percentage of that customer's later revenue.

Is a hybrid deal better than CPA?+

It depends on how long your customers stay and spend. If they stay long, a hybrid usually earns more in total. If they leave quickly, pure CPA often wins.

How do I get a hybrid deal?+

Usually by showing a program consistent traffic with good retention over a few months. Programs offer hybrids when they trust the traffic.

Can a hybrid deal have negative carryover?+

In iGaming the RevShare part can. Read the terms for whether a negative month is carried forward.
